I wouldn't keep the snakes in my home, but they are good at keeping the rodent population in check. We once had one "climbing" our stairs from the garage up to our house above. It moved really fast. My eldest daughter found it in the dark when she was going up the stairs. Poor girl! Hubby, who hates snakes, was good enough to catch it in a large tin and take it safely to the fields nearby. We looked it up on the internet and it wasn't poisonous.
