- The song has to be happy and cheerful;
- The chorus has to be highly repetitive and easily remembered;
- The song has to have a hook in the music so that you could identify it in just a few notes; and
- If the song is from a one hit wonder band - it is a bonus.
When I first heard this song, I wanted to stab my ears with an ice pick but like a bad fungus, it just grows on you...
With summer now ending and the weather outside being rainy, cool and dreary, how could one not think of Len's Steal My Sunshine
Now I didn't really consider the next video to be really in this category...
but Disney did this, and now it has to be included...
LOL! Thanks for bringing me some smiles on this dreary, rainy day!! And by the way, I also wanted to gouge my eyeballs out with a spork when I first heard "Barbie Girl," but if I heard the song today I would happily scream the words and dance around like an idiot.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember "What is Love?" by Haddaway? I think that goodie made its appearance right around the same time as "Barbie Girl" came out... I actually bought the album for that gem. Yeah. I don't know if it really qualifies as a super-happy song, but it was the first one that popped into my head when I saw Barbie Girl!! LOL
Anyway, I'm stopping by from the Thirsty for Comments Thursday hop, and I love your blog! Happy new follower! (Your GFC gadget is being wonky, but fortunately I was able to follow via the navbar at the top of the page).
Hope you have a great weekend!
Smiles, Jenn @Misadventures in Motherhood
Stopping by from Thirsty for Comments - my first thought when I hear bubble gum song is the Locomotion...
ReplyDeleteYou're right...many of these songs, when you first hear them, make you want to scream to drown out the horrible noise...but after a while, they become catchy. You know, like a virus. I think once your mind realizes that they will keep coming around now and then, it decides to make the best of it and allow you to somehow even enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI tried to think of one myself, but seriously, just drew a blank.
